Just what qualifies me to pursue a career in writing for animation? Glad you asked!
I have extensive academic training in literary studies and writing. After high school, I went to SUNY Geneseo and graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in English Literature (and a BA in Spanish). I tutored in writing while on campus and was a section editor on our college paper. Later I attended Stony Brook University where I earned my English MA as well as an Advanced Certificate in Teaching Writing.
After graduation, I realized I didn’t just want to write critically—I wanted to write creatively. So I took that hobby and refined and expanded it through personal study and group learning. I’m a frequent student at Gotham Writers Workshop in New York City, and I’ve earned an Animation Writing Certificate from the online program at VANAS (Vancouver Animation School). I’ve also completed an Animation Writing internship at Baboon Animation in New York City.
The last few years have been filled with valuable experiences, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Thank you for your interest in my work and in my story! All the best to you!
Career Goals and Experience
Some of my writing accomplishments include:
-Winner of the 2017 “How to Tell Your Story” premise contest through Nickelodeon
-Semi-finalist for the 2018 “The Breakk” Women’s Writers Retreat script contest run by industry veteran Karen Kirkland
-Baboon Animation Writing Intern in 2016
As a young aspiring professional, I would like to find opportunities to contribute as a writer for an established animated series or for any animation-related projects where I can gain experience, meet new people, and learn more about the industry.
In the future, I hope to earn the chance to become a regular staff writer on an animated show and to produce original content of my own. I am also working to establish myself as a fiction writer for middle grade novels. In addition, I have done some freelance copyediting for educational material, and I would like to continue finding work in that area as well. I am also interested in writing for comics and writing children’s chapter books as tie-ins with established animated shows.
